The selection for admission to 3 – year B.Sc. (Nautical Science) Degree course at T.S. Chanakya,
Navi Mumbai, Mumbai Campus; 4-year B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) Degree course at Marine
Engineering & Research Institute, Kolkata, Kolkata Campus & National Maritime Academy,
Chennai, Chennai Campus; 3-year B.Sc. (Maritime Science) Degree course at Marine
Engineering & Research Institute, Mumbai, Mumbai Campus and 4 year B.Tech (Naval
Architecture & Ocean Engineering) Degree course at Visakhapatnam Campus for the session
commencing in August 2011 will be made through the Joint Entrance Examination 2011 conducted
by IITs on 10.04.2011. There will be no separate Entrance Examination for admission to
the above institutes/courses and only those candidates who secure Minimum Qualifying
Marks for Ranking (MQMR) in the individual subjects for respective category in JEE-2011
will be called for counselling in order of merit in the month of July/August 2011. All
Indian Nationals seeking admission to the above mentioned institutes /courses must fill
up the application form for IIT-JEE-2011 and also a separate application form issued by
Indian Maritime University, Mumbai Campus.
Seats: There are 185 seats in T.S. Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai Campus; 246 in MERIKolkata,
Kolkata Campus; 46 in MERI-Mumbai, Mumbai Campus; 80 in NMA-Chennai, Chennai
Campus and 40 seats in Visakhapatnam Campus. Out of these, 10 seats are reserved for
foreign nationals.
Reservation of Seats: 15% are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5% for ST candidates & 27% are
reserved for OBC candidates belonging to non-creamy layer.
Academic Qualification: 1. A candidate must have passed (10 + 2) Examination with Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics and English. AND
2. Candidates belonging to General & OBC categories must secure at least 60% marks and
SC&ST candidates must secure at least 55% marks in aggregate in the (10+2) Examination.

Special Information: The sale of application form commences at the above centres from
28.01.2011 and the application form duly filled in should be submitted to the Indian Maritime
University, Mumbai Campus, Karave, Nerul, Navi Mumbai – 400706 on or before 22.03.2011.
The counselling will be conducted in the month of July/August 2011 on the basis of the merit of
the candidate in IIT-JEE - 2011 Examination. The courses will commence in mid August, 2011.
For candidates joining B. Tech. (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering) degree course;
the physical standards are as required for regular engineering students.
For other candidates, details of the medical standards are available in the information brochure.
However, the candidates should note that, for joining B.Sc. (Nautical Science) degree course &
B.Sc. (Maritime Science) degree course, normal vision of 6/6 is essential for each eye separately
and those wearing glasses will not be eligible for admission. Whereas in the case of joining
B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) degree course, glasses will be allowed up to plus or minus 2.5.Unaided
vision should be 6/12 in both eyes minimum or 6/9 in the good eye and 6/12 in the other eye
at least. Defective colour vision is a disqualification for B.Sc. (Nautical Science) degree
course, B.Sc. (Maritime Science) degree course & B.Tech. (Marine Engineering) degree
course. Candidates should be mentally & physically fit for sea life. On successful completion of
the above courses, the cadets will be eligible to join the Merchant Navy both in India and abroad,
with attractive salaries and exciting career prospects.
There are total 10 seats available for direct admission of foreign nationals to these institutes.

Passed High School with Science from a recognized Institution /Board with 5 years of relevant

National Apprenticeship Certificate with 2 years of relevant experience as may be specified

General Conditions And Requirements:
1. All the above posts carry usual allowances as admissible under the Central Government
Rules.

Autonomous Organizations as well as candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC community and
physically handicapped persons, as per Govt. of India Rules.
3. The requirement regarding experience is relaxable at the discretion of Screening Committee in
the cases of candidates belongings to SC/ST, if at any stage of selection, the relevant Committee
is of the opinion that sufficient number of candidates from these communities possessing the
requisite qualifications are not likely to be available to fill up the posts reserved for them.
4. Screening Committee can exercise discretions regarding fulfillment of experience criteria in
the specified pay band and equivalence of pay band.
5. For an engineering post graduate holding a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, the time spent on Ph.D.
shall be considered as research experience upto a maximum of three years
6. In case of candidates already employed, the forwarding authority should certify that the
particulars furnished by the officer are correct and that no disciplinary or vigilance case is
pending or contemplated against the officer. Up-to-date annul confidential report dossiers of the
applicants should also be sent when requested by the National Institute of Hydrology. It may also
be confirmed that in the event of selection for the appointment, the officer concerned will be
